A “Tasteless” Goodbye, Obit for a Beer Can

I want to provide the readers with a bit of a back story on how this post came into existence.

I have been traveling to the town of Munising, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a few times of the year of 2026. On these trips I have found myself primarily staying at Boarders Inn & Suites by Cobblestone in Wetmore. The hotel has a small pub, aptly name 1/2 Pint Pub.

The bartender was gifted a can FVCK COVID beer which was produced by Ale Asylum. The brewery is no longer in business but the can she was given went unopen for 6 years. It was a talking point for those who stopped at the hotel’s pub. The bartender proudly displayed it on top of the bar in front of many of the liquor offerings they had.

Sadly, recently a guest was handed the can to look at it, but he opened it. Thankfully, he did not try and drink from the can, as he may have gotten sick. The can was 6 years old, and had been sitting out in the open all that time.

So, on my most recent stop, I jokingly offered to write an obituary for the can. This is that obituary just below.

Now, the story has a Happy Ending. After the bartender shared the story of what happened, a new can was found. An unopen can was found sitting at a home of a friend of hers, and eventually a new can will be at the bar.

Now, here is the tongue and cheek obituary I had written and is displayed at the bar with the original can as of this writing.

It is with great displeasure that we here at ½ Pint Pub must announce the recent passing of a valued employee. After 6 long years of bringing smiles to the patrons, a guest defiled our valued employee, resulting in death.

Our employee had spent its 6 years watching the bar and its patrons. The weather was never a factor as they carried on the watch over the years. What was seen and what was overheard went with our employee as it left this world.

Life started simple enough; as with many of us, life filled our bodies. After some travels, home was found here in our little pub. The spot within our pub provided the best vantage point to keep an eye on the patrons and fellow staff.

Sadly, as one patron was admiring our employee, he intentionally, or not, caused our employee to pop its top.

The sudden relief of pressure caused our employee to depart this world.x

We ask for your prayers and thoughts as we mourn the loss of our valued employee.

The one thing many were not aware of is that over those 6 years, no paycheck was ever received.  Instead our employee sat there, on the bar, silently, not judging, and watching — enjoying its life as a beer can. Its simple message was “FVCK COVID.”
